Schillerschule Sports Hall Wins BDA Architecture Award
The sports hall at Schillerschule Gymnasium in Frankfurt has been awarded the Martin Elsaesser Plaque in the BDA Hessen competition “Kleine Häuser, große Häuser”.

The award, given every five years, recognizes exemplary architecture across the region and brings it to a wider public.
With its semi-submerged structure and walkable roof, the new hall responds to the tight urban site of the school in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen. The roof returns the built-over ground as a lively outdoor space—for play, movement, or even as a green classroom. Ramps, stairways, and an elevator ensure barrier-free access.
The golden copper façade gives the building a warm character, turning it into a “small treasure” in the middle of the schoolyard and transforming the courtyard into a special place.
