The new Fire and Rescue Technical Center (FTZ) in Hille brings together multiple functions under one roof: the county control center, the local ambulance station, and the municipal rescue station for Hille. It also houses the district’s specialized workshops for hose maintenance and respiratory protection, along with the department of civil protection — all in a modern, purpose-built facility serving the entire Minden-Lübbecke district.

With training rooms, a respiratory protection training course, practice buildings, and classrooms, the FTZ also functions as a central training hub for fire departments across the county.

The design responds to the rural, small-scale surroundings with light brickwork combined with red and anthracite façade elements. Within the building, functions are clearly expressed in the overall massing and through differentiated materials.

At the heart of the U-shaped complex lies the control center with ten workstations, where all incoming emergency calls are received and coordinated. Framed by the rescue station and other operational units, it becomes the focal point of the building. Its distinctive height and red metal façade make its central role within the FTZ unmistakable.

On site, the training yard completes the ensemble. Here, robust reinforced concrete structures in simple, archetypal forms provide the setting for realistic fire and rescue exercises. Together with the main building, they turn the FTZ into a coherent complex where operations, training, and preparedness are brought under one roof and made visible as a single, integrated whole.
